Box Score 2 After losing the doubles point, the women's tennis team came back strong to beat Drury 4-2 in the GLVC opener.
Paula Ballesteros and
Diana Cabrera won their 8
th doubles match at the season at the 1 spot, but Drury won the 2 and 3 doubles to clinch the point.
Diana Cabrera started off the singles wins for the Bearcats as she won 6-1, 6-1 at the 1 spot.
Ghada Dirninger secured the next victory at the 4 spot, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. In her team leading 10
th win of the season,
Paula Ballesteros won 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. The clincher for the Bearcats came at the five spot where
Lola Cincunegui had the longest match of the day. After falling in the fist set, Cincunegui fought bought to win 6-3, 6-5 in sets 2 and 3. The win evened the Bearcats overall record to 7-7 and 1-0 in conference play.
The men fought until the very end but fell to Drury 4-3. Drury secured the doubles point, but three wins in singles helped the Bearcats keep the match alive.
Carlos Corser had the quickest win for the Bearcats at the 4 spot where he won 6-0, 6-3.
Ilyes Khelifi had a big win at the 5 spot, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.
Youssef Nabil won his team leading 8
th singles win of the year at the 3 spot, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. The match came down to the 6 singles.
Max Sanoja fell in the first set but bounced back to win the second. After a 5-5 tie in the third set, Drury pulled ahead to clinch the win.
Both teams return to action next Friday at home against William Jewell.
