Bolivar, Mo- The SBU softball team took Northwestern Oklahoma State University at home in a doubleheader this afternoon. Every Bearcat contributed to the team, and they won their first doubleheader of the season, moving to 5-12 on the season.

"The Girls came ready with the right mindset today and played like they were able as a collective whole. We have been slowly piecing parts of our game together and today in all aspects of our game we played, clean good softball. Defensively our pitchers held the fort down and our defense made the routine and some exceptional plays behind them. Our offense made adjustments and were aggressive ont= the base paths. The outcome today certainly affirmed our approach for the whole squad. I believe this team is really just getting started." -Head Coach Carly Adkins

The Bearcats scored the first run in game one, with the RBI going to Freshman Margo Frossard. The Rangers went on to score 6 unanswered before the Bearcats broke that in the 4th inning. SBU would allow one more run before heading into the bottom of the 7th trailing 3-7. The grit of the team took over from there and they scored 4 straight runs to tie the game and send the game into extra innings. The Bearcat defense kept the Rangers from scoring in the top of the 8th, the Katlynn McConville walked it off with a Home Run to left field off the first pitch of the inning. Hallie Henderson took the mound in game one, throwing over 100 pitches across 7.2 innings, while also recording the win.

Reilly Rupert took the mound and took control of game two against the Rangers. She allowed one run and two hits through the first two innings. She shut out Northwestern after that allowing only one hit through the next four innings; Rupert recorded her first win of the season. Emma Wood took over at pitcher in the 7th inning and recorded the Bearcats first save of the season. Meadow Vassar recorded two hits and both the team's RBI's in game two.

The Bearcats will look to use this doubleheader victory as they return to conference play this Saturday at Missouri S&T. That doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
