Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's basketball team hosted the Truman State Bulldogs this afternoon in the Meyer Center. The Bearcats stumped the Bulldogs potent offense defeating them 72-59. That win hands them their first conference win and moves them to 5-6 (1-4 GLVC) on the season.
"It was a really fun battle, just so proud of my team." Head Coach
Kelsey Keizer said, "these girls worked really hard the last three days and it showed. They played a lot better together, offensively took care of the basketball only having 8 turnovers, moved the ball better. Then defensively I thought they had a lot of guts and fight and never got too frustrated. They are a really good offensive team, Truman State is. They hit some really tough shots in tough moments, but our kids didn't put your head down and just kept battling. Just really proud of them.
The Bearcats defense, which has been solid all season, led the Bearcats to a victory against the best offense in the conference. They held a team that was averaging 80 points a game to only 59, the Bulldogs fewest on the season.
It was the sophomore returners
Emma Perry and
Kelsey Blakemore who led the way on offense for the Bearcats. Blakemore had a career and game high with 19 points along with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Emma Perry was lights out from beyond the arc going 4 of 5 scoring 15 points. Junior
Victoria Hamilton had another strong performance with a career high 14 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Bearcats will take a long break from regular season games with their next one being in 21 days. They will travel to Des Moines, Iowa next Saturday in an exhibition game against Drake University with a tipoff of 1:00 PM.
