Elsah, Ill. – The SBU men's cross-country team traveled to Principia University earlier today to race in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. The Bearcats had a strong performance finishing in 4
th place, their best finish since joining the GLVC.
"We fought hard today and maybe didn't hit our top goals but worked together and raced well on both sides." Head Coach
Corey McElhaney said, "The best race of the year for both groups. I am proud of both teams' efforts today. Now we go back to the drawing boards and work towards regionals."
Leading the way for the Bearcats was sophomore
Brady Bauder who finished in 21
st place. Finishing just seconds behind him was fellow teammates
Colby Sanders and
Joe Kremp in 24
th and 25
th place. Rounding out the top five bearcat finishers was
Evan Smith and
Damien Williams in 28
th and 29
th place respectively. The team finished with 127 points in 4
th place only behind Illinois Springfield, Lewis, and Missouri S&T.
The men's cross-country team now heads to the regional race two weeks from today on November 19
th. The regional race will take place at University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
