Lebanon, Ill. – The SBU football team took the McKendree University Bearcats this afternoon on the road. Southwest Baptist completed over 600 yards of offense in a 49-31 victory. That win moves them to 4-5 (2-2 GLVC) on the season.
"I was so proud of the way our guys played today." Head Coach
Robert Clardy said, "We knew we needed to play a disciplined game for 60 minutes to give us a chance to win on the road in a tough environment. We were physical on both sides of the ball and it heled us establish the run game early."
Establish the run game they did as they had over 330 total net rushing yards in the game. Two Bearcats had a career high in rush yards; freshman Kamerin Ferguson had 50. Junior
Abel Carter burst into the record books with 243, 2
nd most in a single game by a Bearcat in SBU history. Carter ran all 243 yards in just 14 carries for an average of 17.4 yards per carry. He also reached the 1,000-yard mark for the season.
"Abel was a monster today. He ran hard and made guys miss at the second level." Clardy said, "I was extremely proud of our offensive line, tight ends and wide receivers. They were the reason Abel was able to spring some of those long runs and convert to touchdowns."
On the defensive side of the ball
Jeran Seabolt dominated for the Bearcats. He had seven solo tackles along with two completed turnovers. He had one fumble recovery and an interception return for 12 yards, both happening in the redzone.
SBU football returns home for Senior day next Saturday November 5
th. They will take on the Quincy University Hawks at Plaster Stadium with kickoff at approximately 1 PM.
