Volleyball Wraps Up Midwest Crossover With Wins On and Off the Court

Hammond, Ind. -  The SBU volleyball team finished up day 2 of the Midwest Crossover Challenge today. They went 1-1 on day, winning the final game of the day in the 5th set. That moves them to 13-10 on the season.

"The crossover tournament was a great success for the GLVC and our team was part of that going 2-1 for the weekend." Said Head Coach James Hanger, "SBU volleyball also won the costume contest and that was a fun part of the tourney experience for us."

SBU contributed two wins to the GLVC dominate performance at the crossover challenge going 28-11. The Bearcats were successful off the court winning the crossover costume challenge. They rolled up to the Hammond Sportsplex as their favorite characters from Shrek ranging from Shrek to Prince Charming to the three blind mice. Their fancy, well put together costumes earned them this year's victory.

"We had so much fun as a team winning the costume contest!" Said Senior Lauren Compton, "It was such a good experience cheering for fellow GLVC teams one last time."

On the court, the Bearcats were in the final match to finish the day defeating Lake Superior State in five sets. Nearly the entire team contributed at least one point in the match. Junior Loran Pritchett had a dominant game with 21 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Junior Rachel Francis lead the team with seven total blocks on the day, two being solo.

"We came in tonight ready to play hard and expected them to be better because they had some new girls since we last played them." Pritchett said, "Being the last two teams in the gym, we battled hard, and we came out victorious."

The Bearcats will return to Bolivar next weekend as they take on the Greyhounds of Indianapolis. This match will take place on Friday, October 21st at 6:00 PM.
