Midland, Mich. – The SBU men's tennis team advanced to the Midwest Regional Championship on Monday, facing conference rival Indianapolis for the second meeting in just over a week. Although the Bearcats won the GLVC Championship, the Greyhounds won the Regional Championship, 4-1.

The Greyhounds quickly picked up their second point on court 3, making the score 2-0. Adham Gaber then knocked off the #26 player in the nation on court 1, 6-1, 6-4 to put SBU on the board. UINDY won court 2 by narrow scores of 6-3, 6-3 and won the competition with a very close match on court 5, 7-5, 6-4. David Szeri was ahead 4-3 in his second set on court 4 and Max Sanoja was competing in his third set when the match was called.

After a short 2020 season, the men's tennis team made up for it in 2021. They upset #14 Drury, handing the Panthers their first conference loss in 83 matches (15 years), Adham Gaber was named GLVC Player of the Year and Fanni Varga was named GLVC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, and they claimed the GLVC Championship with an upset of #5 Indianapolis.
