Kansas City, Mo. – The volleyball team broke up their triangular schedule with a single match against Rockhurst Friday afternoon. Despite the close efforts, the Hawks defeated the Bearcats 3-0, dropping SBU to 2-10 on the season.
In the first set, SBU trailed 23-16 before scoring the next four out of five points to make it 24-20, but couldn't quite complete the comeback, falling 25-20. Rockhurst had another big lead in the second set at 18-12, when SBU began another comeback. The Bearcats rallied hard to even the score at 22-22, when the hosts stepped up to take the last three points and the second set. Their momentum carried into the third set, winning 25-14 to take the match.
Rebecca Rabius and
Ashley Lasher both finished with 6 kills in the match.
Delanie Tipton led both teams with 7 blocks, and
Ashleigh DeWees finished 2 digs shy of a double-double at 12 assists and 8 digs.
SBU will play another single match tomorrow, hosting Missouri S&T for senior day. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
