Pittsburg, Kan. - Head Coach
Corey McElhaney and a group of four girls were headed north to compete on Saturday. After a few hours into the road trip and a last minute change of plans, the team turned around and headed to Pittsburg, KS to compete at Pitt State Friday evening. That change of plans led to a school record and a #1 ranking in the women's distance medley relay. The combination of
Tabitha Weber,
Zara Brown,
Alexis Barber, and
Elysia Burgos captured this season's best time in the nation, running the race in 11:35.86, nearly 12 seconds faster than the previous best time this year. That time also broke SBU's record from February of 2019. Although the SBU women's DMR had already provisionally qualified for nationals, this time hits that mark as well, just over 2 seconds away from automatically qualifying for nationals. A majority of the team will compete tomorrow at Washburn for the second time this season.
