Bolivar Mo. - The SBU Women's Basketball team went up against the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans Thursday afternoon following the break. The Bearcats took the victory over the Trojans with the score of 100-47. This marks the team's 4th straight win and pushes the Bearcats record to 7-4 (2-1 GLVC) for the season.
At the beginning of the game, Kallyn Stumbo made a two-pointer to get the Bearcats on the board. Moments later, Stumbo made a three pointer. Mary Foster Rose then followed with a jumper for two points. Late in the first, the Bearcats slowly began pulling away from the Trojans. In the last minute of the quarter, Micah Clayton mad three-pointer to make the score 23-14. Kicking things off in the second quarter, Kyleigh Vaught, Mary Rose Foster and Nyah Pettus made layups to maintain the lead. Faith Gilkey made a three-pointer to make the score 42-22, and Leikyn Walker made a layup right before halftime.
A few minutes into the third quarter, Emma Perry made a three-pointer. In the last seconds of the third quarter, Foster made a late jumper for two points to boost their lead to 38. Gilkey made a another three-pointer, and Tippens made a jumper in the paint to make the score 84-38. Midway through the fourth quarter, Foster made a layup to increase the lead. Emma Perry made SBU's final two baskets, both being three pointers, sealing the victory for the Bearcats and hitting the century mark with the final score 100-47.
Kyleigh Vaught was the leading scorer with 20 points. Mary Rose Foster had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Faith Gilkey also had 16 points. Emma Perry had 12 points with 3 steals. With another near double-double performance, Nyah Pettus finished with 11 points with 7 rebounds. As a team, The Bearcats had 31 rebounds, 24 assists, and 18 steals, shooting 55% from the field.
The Bearcats will remain at home to take on Highway 13 rival, Drury on January 4 at 5:30 PM.
