Bolivar, MO- The Southwest Baptist University Men's Basketball team took on the Hannibal-Lagrange Trojans this evening in the Meyer Wellness Center. A big second half gave the Bearcats the win 75-51. With the win, SBU moves to 4-1 on the season.
R.J. Crawford opened up scoring by knocking down a 3-pointer assisted by
Mitch Ganote. Both teams would continue to trade baskets until the Bearcats jumped out to a 17-7 lead. The Trojans would fight right back and go on a 12-1 run to regain the lead 19-18.
Quinn Nelson finished out the half hitting back to back 3-pointers to give the Bearcats a 31-29 lead at half.
Crawford opened up the scoring again in the second half, shortly followed by a long jumper from
Jalil Beaubrun to give the Bearcats a six-point lead. Multiple short-range baskets by the Bearcats gave them a 14-point lead six minutes into the second half. Then a flurry of 3-point buckets from
Nico Aguirre, Drew McMullin,
Rico Clouden, and Beaubrun put the Bearcats ahead 63-37. The Bearcats finished the game with a score of 75-51.
As a team the Bearcats went 30-55 from the field shooting 54.5% and 10-21 from beyond the arc 47.6%. Every Bearcat that touched the floor tonight scored a point. Beaubrun was the only Bearcat in double digits scoring 13 points. Crawford controlled the boards for the Bearcats pulling down a team high 7 rebounds, Ganote closely following him with 5. Ganote also had 4 assists and 4 steals.
The Bearcats will be back in action Monday November 29
th here in the Meyer Wellness Center. They will begin conference play as they take on the William Jewell Cardinals. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
