Arkadelphia, Ark. – After dropping their season opener last night, the SBU Men's Tennis team bounced back with a 1-1 record on the day. They fell to Delta State 1-6 in the morning and won the battle of the Baptists against Ouachita Baptist 4-3. Their record on this young season now sits at 1-2.
Match One
The Statesmen won the first two doubles matches on courts 2 and 3, winning the doubles point. Although the doubles point was already won by DSU,
Adham Gaber and
David Szeri still claimed the win on court 1, 6-3.
Delta State picked up their second point with a clean sweep on court 4, followed by their third point in 6-2 6-2 sets on court 3.
Alvaro Nunez battled hard on court two, but fell 4-6 3-6 which gave the Statesmen the win. Picking up a point for SBU was
Adham Gaber, winning 6-1 6-4 on court one, but DSU won the other two points for a final score of 1-6.
Match Two
SBU began doubles play up automatically, as the Tigers only had 4 players available to play. The doubles point was sealed by
Alvaro Nunez and
Carlos Corser, winning 6-3 on court 2.
Two more automatic points were gained in singles play, as OBU only had 4 of the 6 singles spots filled. With the score reading 3-0, Ouachita Baptist picked up three straight points on courts 4, 3, and 2.
Alvaro Nunez took his opponent to three sets on court 2, but couldn't get it done.
Adham Gaber won his first set 6-3, fell in the second set 4-6, and dominated his opponent 6-1 to complete the 4-3 victory for the Bearcats.
The men's team has a couple of weeks off, as their next competition will take place on February 13 against Washington University in St. Louis.
