Â
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In their first year as full-time members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the SBU Women's Basketball team finished 15-13 (9-11 GLVC) on the year. The GLVC allows just 8 teams to make the conference tournament. Finishing 10th out of 16 teams in the GLVC, the Bearcats narrowly missed the conference tournament for the second straight year.
The Bearcats are being led by the trio of senior's Kyleigh Vaught, Sydney Bandy, and Regan Tibbits with a combined 39.3 points per game between them. SBU as a team is averaging 7.2 made three pointers per game on an impressive 34.3% shooting. The Bearcats are also leading the GLVC in free throw percentage with a 80.2% mark along with currently being 5th in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game.
Southwest Baptist is coming off back-to-back victories over Missouri S&T and Rockhurst. Kyleigh Vaught has combined for 41 points in those wins along with a combined 29 points from Regan Tibbits. The Bearcats also had a season high 32 made free throws in the victory at Rockhurst.
SCOUTING THE MARYVILLE SAINTS
The Maryville Saints are coming into this matchup after winning the last two games over Rockhurst and Missouri-St. Louis. The Saints are led in scoring by junior Jayda Jansen with 18.3 points per game and redshirt-sophomore Antoinette Mussorici with 17.5 points per game. Both Taylor Kirby and Karlee Feldman are grabbing just over 6 rebounds per game for the Saints as well. Maryville uses an offense that is scoring an average of 70.1 points per game to propel them to the wins they have. The Saints also utilize a +4.8 turnover margin to get points off turnovers.
THE COACHES
SBU head coachÂ
Kelsey Keizer begins her seventh season on the SBU bench after compiling a 81-90 (44-74 conf.) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-GLVC honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as the GLVC takes only 8 teams to the postseason tournament.
Collin Lanam is currently in his 5th season as the head coach of the Maryville women's basketball team after previously spending 3 seasons as an assistant for Maryville's mens basketball team. Lanam has led 7 players to All-GLVC honors as well as winning 18 games in the 2018-19 season which is the most since 2013-14.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southwest Baptist leads the short series 2-1 with their first win coming in the 2009-10 season. The Bearcats split the season series last year with a 66-82 loss followed by a 68-59 win.
