Game Notes

Date: January 23, 2021
Time: 1:00 PM
Location: Bolivar, Mo.

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will face off against the Miners for the second time this year. Southwest Baptist will try to get revenge after dropping the first game agaist the Miners earlier this year.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In their first year as full-time members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the SBU Women's Basketball team finished 15-13 (9-11 GLVC) on the year. The GLVC allows just 8 teams to make the conference tournament. Finishing 10th out of 16 teams in the GLVC, the Bearcats narrowly missed the conference tournament for the second straight year.

The Bearcats are being led by the trio of senior's Kyleigh Vaught, Sydney Bandy, and Regan Tibbits with a combined 35.7 points per game between them. SBU as a team is averaging 6.8 three pointers per game on an impressive 32.5% shooting. The Bearcats are also leading the GLVC in free throw percentage with a 81.3% mark along with currently being 5th in the conference in 3-point field goals made with 6.8 per game.

Southwest Baptist is coming off a big win over William Jewell after falling to the Cardinals earlier this season. Syndey Bandy kept her hot hand going, scoring in double-digits for the second time in three games. Kyleigh Vaught also tied a career high in steals with four in the game.

SCOUTING THE MISSOURI S&T MINERS
The Miners of Missouri S&T are led by junior Laura Rodriguez with 15.8 points per game followed up closely by Alex Kerr who is averaging 14.2 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. The Miners come in struggling on offense, scoring an average of just 66.4 points per game as a team along with 16.8 turnovers per game. Missouri S&T is coming off of three straight losses to Truman State, William Jewell, and Rockhurst which pushed their record to only 2 wins and 10 losses on the season.

THE COACHES
SBU head coach Kelsey Keizer begins her seventh season on the SBU bench after compiling a 81-90 (44-74 conf.) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-GLVC honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as the GLVC takes only 8 teams to the postseason tournament.

Kira Carter is entering her first season as head coach of the Miners after spending the previous 3 seasons coaching in Division I. Carter has been named to the 2020 Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 30 Under 30 list. Carter also held the assistant coaching position at Missouri S&T during the 2016-17 season.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bearcats lead the all-time series against the Miners 33-25 with a 74-62 win in the 2019-20 matchup but fell to the Miners earlier this year 68-79.
