Wichita Falls, Tex. – The Men's Tennis team continued competition in Texas Saturday, taking on Colorado Mesa and Midwestern State. The Bearcats defeated Colorado Mesa 5-0, but fell to Midwestern State 3-4. Their record now sits at 4-3 on the year.
Match One
SBU took on Colorado Mesa in the morning match.
Adham Gaber and
Youssef Nabil handled their opponents with ease on court 1, defeating them 6-1.
David Szeri and
Ilyes Khelifi also won on court 3, securing the doubles point with a 6-3 finish. Although the point was already won,
Alvaro Nunez and
Carlos Corser won on court 2, 6-4.
Carlos Corser won the second point for SBU, defeating his opponent 6-2 6-1 on court 3.
David Szeri was the next to finish, winning his match on court 2, 6-1 6-4. The match-clinching point was won by
Adham Gaber, taking his match 6-4 6-2 on court 1.
Alvaro Nunez finished his match, defeating his opponent 6-2 6-4 on court 4. The matches on courts 5 and 6 went unfinished, giving SBU the 5-0 victory.
Match Two
Later in the afternoon SBU played against Midwestern State. The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles play, winning on court 3 by a score of 6-2, and on court 1 6-3.
Alvaro Nunez provided a spark to the Bearcats, winning the first singles match on court 4, 6-1 6-1.
Adham Gaber then gave SBU a 2-1 lead with a 6-4 7-6 victory on court 1 over the #5 player in the country. Midwestern took back the lead with wins on courts 2 and 3. SBU continued to fight, evening the score once again after
Youssef Nabil won 6-1 6-7 6-3 on court 5. The match deciding point was won by the Mustangs on court 6, giving them the 4-3 win over SBU.
The Bearcats wrap up their tournament in Texas with a match against Cameron University on Sunday, March 8 at 10:00 AM.
