Bearcats Sweep Blue Tigers in Mid-Week Matchup

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Bearcats had a change in schedule Wednesday morning, changing their series with Lincoln from a home series to a road series. Due to the weather Bolivar received, Wednesday's games were played in Jefferson City. The trip didn't bother the Bearcats, as they defeated the Blue Tigers in both games, 12-4 and 3-1. They improve to 7-12 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.

Game One
Morgan McMullin quickly made the score 2-0 in the first inning as she doubled to right center, bringing in two runs. A few batter later, a wild pitch with the bases loaded brought home McMullin to make the score 3-0. Renae Gillmore then hit an infield single to drive in another for SBU. With two outs in the inning, a single by Sam Moran started a bizarre play that scored 3 runs due to errors by the Blue Tigers. SBU led 7-0 after the first inning.

Lincoln also got on the board in the first, scoring 2 runs. With two outs in the third inning, Paige St. Pierre doubled to left field to start another rally. Sam Moran then hit a triple, bringing home St. Pierre. Megan Schellert followed with an RBI single up the middle, 9-2 SBU. Janessa Rivera reached on a triple in the fourth inning and later scored on a Renae Gillmore RBI single. Gillmore came around to score later in the inning thanks to a double by Nicole Horstman. Lincoln scored their 4th and final run in the fourth inning, as SBU led 11-4. SBU's final run was scored on a Morgan McMullin double to left center, scoring Megan Schellert. Due to the run rule, the game was called after 5 innings, 12-4.

Morgan McMullin went 2-4 at the plate, driving in 3 runs. Sam Moran, Megan Schellert, Janessa Rivera, and Renae Gillmore also had 2 hits in the contest.

Game Two
The first inning went three up, three down on both sides. Renae Gillmore drew a two out walk in the second inning and stole second during the next at-bat. An error by the shortstop brought Gillmore around to score, giving SBU an early 1-0 lead. Paige St. Pierre led off the third inning with a triple to left center. After an out and a walk, Morgan McMullin continued her impressive day with an RBI double to right center. Another run came around to score on a ground out, giving SBU a 3-0 lead after three innings played. The Blue Tigers struck once in the fifth inning, but that was all they'd get, ending in a 3-1 final.

Megan Schellert and Paige St. Pierre each picked up 2 hits in the victory. Reilly Rupert pitched all 7.0 innings, giving up just 5 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earned run.

The Bearcats continue a long road schedule, with Quincy up next. That doubleheader will be played on Saturday, March 14 at 12 PM and 2 PM at Quincy, IL.
