Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats keep the train rolling as they won their third straight game, beating University of Illinois-Springfield by a score of 88-82. This is their 10th win of the semester as they improve to 17-4 (10-3 GLVC).
Sophomore Quinn Nelson started the game out hitting two three's and a layup for the team's first 8 points. The team kept rolling, giving them a seven point lead just five minutes into the half. They pushed that lead to 12 points with 3:48 to go in the half by a score of 36-24. Damian Prgomet and Mitch Ganote would both knock down three's in that span to help the Bearcats. SBU would not score the rest of the half as the Prairie Stars went on a 10-0 run.Â
The Bearcats came out shooting in the second half, going on a quick 9-0 run. Damian Prgomet had a hot start to the half scoring eight points in the first five minutes. The Prairie Stars kept within striking distance, hitting big three's every time the Bearcats were close to putting the game out of range. SBU led by as little as two points with 8:52 remaining in the game. That lead quickly pushed to seven as Joe Miller knocked down a big three for his first points of the game. Another three pointer by Quinn Nelson and two monster dunks by Prgomet kept them with a solid eight point lead with 4:27 to go. Prgomet would remain hot, hitting a three and another jam in the coming minutes. SBU never looked back from that knocking down six straight free throws to win the game 88-82. The Bearcats never trailed the entire game for their 10th conference win of the season.
The big man out of Australia, Prgomet, led the way for the Bearcats with 21 points. He went 2 for 2 from beyond the arc, while pulling down seven rebounds and swatting away three shots. Right behind Prgomet was Nelson with 20 points and Brady Smith with 18. Smith led the team with six assists, with Nelson and Mitch Ganote both having three. The Bearcats dominated the glass as they out rebounded UIS 44 to 22. The team shot 31-68 (45.6%) and 10-19 (52.6%) from three point range. SBU was solid from the charity stripe shooting 88.9% while scoring 40 of their points in the paint.Â
The Bearcats finish this home stretch on Saturday against Lewis University. This will be the first match between these two teams this season as tip off is scheduled for 3 P.M.
