Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will face the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield for a conference showdown. The Prairie Stars were picked to finish in 15th in the GLVC at the beginning of the year and are currently in 16th place.Â
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats return just 1 starter from the 2018-19 season inÂ
Bailey Rezabek. SBU also returns their forward transfer duo from last season,Â
Tyra Kidd andÂ
Zahria White. Returning for their junior seasons areÂ
Taliayah Wilson,Â
Regan Tibbits, andÂ
Sydney Bandy. SophomoresÂ
Brylee Graddy andÂ
Megan Worthington also return. The Bearcats also add quite a few new faces, including NCAA DI transferÂ
Alexus Johnson.
In their last competition, the Bearcats stretched the winning streak out to 2 games. In the win the Bearcats were led by 4 players scoring double digits. Kyleigh Vaught led all players with 21 points. Zahria White also set a career high in rebounds with 14.
SCOUTING THE PRAIRIE STARS
UIS is coming off of two consecutive losses and looking to turn their fortunes around. The Prairie Stars are led by sophomore Lauren Ladowski who is averaging 15.1 points per gmae on the season. Ladowski also leads the team in steals with 34 steals on the season. UIS relies heavily on using an overpowering offense to win games.
THE COACHES
SBU head coachÂ
Kelsey Keizer begins her sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 66-76 (35-63 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-MIAA honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as SBU lost the head-to-head against the #10 seeded MSSU earlier in the season.
Casey Thousand is starting her first season as head coach of the Prarie Stars. In her past she was an assistant at Northern Michigan for three years and head coach at Edgewood for 7 seasons. The year before joing UIS Thousand led the No. 3 scoring defense in Division II.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southwest Baptist is leading in the all time series 3-0 with the three wins coming from 2012-2015. The Bearcats look to stay undefeated against UIS with another home win on the resume.Â
