Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Baseball team will come home to host the Wildcats of Wayne State. Both teams are sitting at .500 right now and are looking to pull out the series win and gain momentum going into the rest of the season.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats are coming off a 19-31 (10-23 MIAA) finish last season. The athletics program has made the move from the MIAA to the GLVC, going from 14 to 16 teams in the conference. A solid, veteran pitching staff returns for the Bearcats,
Dalton Morrow,
Drew Wagner,
Kyle Smith, and
Cole Van Every. Leading the Bearcats offensively will be
Brett Mitchell,
Sam Avila,
Blake Hobbs,
Jackson Soule, and
Blake Lutgen. Last season the Bearcats played against a few GLVC teams, going 2-1 against Maryville who finished 2nd in the GLVC last year, beating Drury 9-2, and sweeping McKendree with scores of 15-1 and 5-3.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Wayne State College is coming off of a 32-18 season last year in which the Wildcats made it to the Northern Sun Conference Tournament but fell in their first two games. The Wildcats have already had a player win a conference player of the week award and are looking to improve on that. Andrew Hanson went 4 for 10 in their two most recent games. Hanson is a junior and a key part of the Wildcat offense and infield. The entire Wildcat lineup consists of all juniors and seniors. Wayne State looks to utillize the age and experience that they have.
