Memphis, Tenn. – The Bearcats opened the season with a guaranteed series win over Christian Brothers. SBU played a doubleheader today winning the first game 4-0 and the second 7-4.
Game One
Kyle Smith was the starter for game one and pitched 6 scoreless innings. The bats started hot in this game with a walk and a single in the first.
Jackson Soule would pick up the RBI on a sac fly to center. Southwest Baptist would score another in the 7
th and then two more in the 8
th to the 4-0 lead and not look back.
Langdon Gordon led the Bearcats at the plate going 2 for 5 as well as
Blake Lutgen entering as a pinch hitter and doubling to left center to drive in 2 runs.
Adam White and
Dalton Morrow pitched in relief for Smith and helped to keep CBU from scoring.
Game Two
Game two was called early after 6 innings due to darkness. Southwest Baptist started quick in the second game with 2 in the top of the first. Christian Brothers would come back with one in the bottom of the first. Josh Torrence singled in two runs in the second, with
Blake Ford and
Aaron Head driving in two more in the third to take a commanding lead. Head would finish off the scoring for the Bearcats in the fifth with a double to deep left.
Drew Wagner pitched a solid 4 innings only giving up 1 run and striking out 3.
Parker Dent came in relief and went 2 innings and allowing no runs.
Southwest Baptist will finish up the series with a game on February 2 at 12:00 PM.
