Liberty, Mo. - The Bearcats travel to William Jewell who is coming off three straight losses. SBU will look to keep the Cardinals in check for their first win of the season.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In their first year as full-time members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the SBU Women's Basketball team finished 15-13 (9-11 GLVC) on the year. The GLVC allows just 8 teams to make the conference tournament. Finishing 10th out of 16 teams in the GLVC, the Bearcats narrowly missed the conference tournament for the second straight year.
The Bearcats are being led by senior Kyleigh Vaught who is averaging 15.0 points per game. Megan Worthington has stepped up to average 12.3 points per game after only averaging 4.7 minutes per game in the 2019-20 season. The Bearcats currently have both Regan Tibbits and Rachel Tippens averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. SBU as a team is averaging 7.3 three pointers per game on an impressive 39.3% shooting.
SCOUTING THE WILLIAM JEWELL CARDINALS
The William Jewell Cardinals are a team that relies on experience with its 7 seniors on the roster. Senior Kiara Bradley helps to lead the way in scoring (21.0) and rebounding (9.3). Sophomore Ainsley Tolson is also averaging 10.3 points per game along with 4.5 assists per game for the Cardinals. As a team William Jewell is averaging 58.3 points per game on 36.5% shooting.
THE COACHES
SBU head coach Kelsey Keizer begins her seventh season on the SBU bench after compiling a 81-90 (44-74 conf.) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-GLVC honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as the GLVC takes only 8 teams to the postseason tournament.
Jill Slominski is entering her 25th season with William Jewell. Slominski has compiled a 442-310 all time record with the Cardinals. During her tenure she has had 20+ win seasons 9 different times along with coaching 8 seperate All-Americans.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southwest Baptist leads the series 13-6Â tracing back to both school's NAIA days. The Bearcats split the season series in 2019-20 with a 64-83Â loss and 76-63Â win.
