Rolla, Mo. - The Bearcats are looking to get a bounce back win after falling to #1 Drury in the first game of the season. Due to COVID-19 this game will be played with no attending audience.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In their first year as full-time members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the SBU Women's Basketball team finished 15-13 (9-11 GLVC) on the year. The GLVC allows just 8 teams to make the conference tournament. Finishing 10th out of 16 teams in the GLVC, the Bearcats narrowly missed the conference tournament for the second straight year.
Seven players return from last season, including three starters. Kyleigh Vaught returns for her second season with the Bearcats after receiving third team All-GLVC honors last year. Regan Tibbits and Sydney Bandy also return from last season's starting lineup. Some of the new faces will make an early impact on the team to help the Bearcats jump to a hot start in this conference only season.Â
SCOUTING THE MINERS
Missouri S&T (Rolla, Mo.) has started the 2020-21 season with 4 losses to Maryville, McKendree, Rockhurst, and Lindenwood. The Miners lost to Rockhurst at home by a late three from the Hawks. Junior Alex Kerr leads the attack for the Miners, averaging 14.8 points per game. Missouri S&T also has strong contributions from junior Laura Rodriguez with 14.3 points per game. As a team the Miners are averaging 62.5 points per game while allowing 73.5 points per game. S&T is also shooting an impressive 32.7% from beyond the arc through their first four games.
THE COACHES
SBU head coachÂ
Kelsey Keizer begins her seventh season on the SBU bench after compiling a 81-90 (44-74 conf.) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-GLVC honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as the GLVC takes only 8 teams to the postseason tournament.
Kira Carter is entering her first season as head coach of the Miners after spending the previous 3 seasons coaching in Division I. Carter has been named to the 2020 Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 30 Under 30 list. Carter also held the assistant coaching position at Missouri S&T during the 2016-17 season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bearcats lead the all-time series against the Miners 33-25 with a 74-62 win in the last matchup in 2019-20.
