Memphis, Tenn. - The SBU Baseball team hits the road for their season opening weekend on February 1st and 2nd. The Bearcats will be taking on the Christian Brothers Bucs in Memphis Tennessee. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, February 1 at 12 PM, with the second game following. The series will wrap up on Sunday, February 2 with game time set for 12 PM. 

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats are coming off a 19-31 (10-23 MIAA) finish last season. The athletics program has made the move from the MIAA to the GLVC, going from 14 to 16 teams in the conference. A solid, veteran pitching staff returns for the Bearcats, Dalton Morrow, Drew Wagner, Kyle Smith, and Cole Van Every. Leading the Bearcats offensively will be Brett Mitchell, Sam Avila, Blake Hobbs, Jackson Soule, and Blake Lutgen. Last season the Bearcats played against a few GLVC teams, going 2-1 against Maryville who finished 2nd in the GLVC last year, beating Drury 9-2, and sweeping McKendree with scores of 15-1 and 5-3.

SCOUTING THE BUCS
The Christian Brother Bucs look to start fresh in 2020 after going 9-36 (5-24 GSC) in 2019. Last season, the team hit .248 with just 5 homeruns and 149 RBI. Their ERA was 8.32 with 312 earned runs surrendered. The Bucs lost their one player who hit over .300, but their second best hitter in Garrett Reason-Kerkhoff returns to the team after a .282, 6 doubles, 14 RBI season. On the mound, every pitcher had a 6+ ERA except for Nick Meyers who appeared in 10 games with an ERA of 3.68. He returns for the Bucs in 2020. Christian Brothers is a very young team, having just one senior on the roster.
