SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats are coming off a 2-1 week, beating the Drury Panthers 82-74 Monday night, upsetting #1 Bellarmine Thursday evening, and falling to Indianapolis on Saturday. The Greyhounds ended SBU's 4 game win streak and 5 game road win streak.
Quinn Nelson and
Damian Prgomet have each been earned GLVC Players of the week this season. The team currently ranks 3rd in the conference in three point field goal percentage at .389, and 3rd in field goal percentage at .489.
In their most recent competition, SBU fell to Indianapolis who was the first to upset #1 Bellarmine. The Greyhounds have been national ranked this season, and received votes in the latest poll. The two seniors,
Damian Prgomet and
Godfrey Rolle, each put up 16 points. Despite SBU's 51.9% shooting, Indianapolis wouldn't fall. UIndy shot 53.8% from three.
The Bearcats come into the 2019-20 season following an appearance in the MIAA Tournament last season. Finishing with a 13-15 (7-12 MIAA) regular season record, the Bearcats received the #10 seed in the conference tournament. In the first round, SBU edged out #7 Lindenwood 76-75, becoming the first #10 seed to win a game in the MIAAÂ Tournament and picking up their first conference tournament win since 2006. Washburn put an end to SBU's run in the second round with a 77-58 final score. The Bearcats are now full-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which consists of 16 teams. Lindenwood is also making the move from the MIAAÂ to the GLVC. Three starters return for SBU,
Godfrey Rolle,
Damian Prgomet, and
Quinn Nelson. In addition to those three starters,
Tyler Williams and
Lucas Brueggemann also return from last year's roster. This year's roster consists of 16 total players, 11 of those being new faces. The breakdown of the roster is 2 seniors, 5 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 5 freshmen.Â
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
The Maryville Saints (St. Louis, MO) head into Saturday's matchup with a 4-13 (0-10 GLVC) record. Early in the season, the Saints fell to Hannibal-LaGrange 65-75, a team SBU beat 89-72. Maryville found themselves in the win column against a good Lincoln team, 65-61. The Saints are currently riding a 9 game losing streak, most recently falling to Rockhurst 50-65. Parker Long still leads the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game, and Jalen Gant is averaging 14.0. Gant leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.8. In the GLVC, the Saints rank last in scoring offense, scoring margin, and assists. They rank second to last in a number of other categories.
THE COACHES
SBU head coach
