Louisville, Ky. - Southwest Baptist will host the #1 team in the nation in Drury for the second game of the Highway 13 Catfight. The Bearcats will be looking to pull off the upset and spoil their undeafeted season.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats return just 1 starter from the 2018-19 season inÂ
Bailey Rezabek. SBU also returns their forward transfer duo from last season,Â
Tyra Kidd andÂ
Zahria White. Returning for their junior seasons areÂ
Taliayah Wilson,Â
Regan Tibbits, andÂ
Sydney Bandy. SophomoresÂ
Brylee Graddy andÂ
Megan Worthington also return. The Bearcats also add quite a few new faces, including NCAA DI transferÂ
Alexus Johnson.
In their last competition, the Bearcats fell just short to #1 Drury at home, falling 64-95. Kyleigh Vaught led the team with 17 points along with 15 from Bailey Rezabek. Sydney Bandy also grabbed 8 boards for the Bearcats.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Bellarmine is a team led by 6 seniors but also being led by 6 sophomores to give them the youth and experience needed. Junior Breia Torrens leads the Knights in scoring with an average of 14.3 points per game. Bellarmine is only averaging 68.9 points per game but rely heavily on their defense by forcing 21.5 turnovers per game and having 10.3 steals per game.Â
THE COACHES
SBU head coach Kelsey Keizer begins her sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 66-76 (35-63 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-MIAA honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as SBU lost the head-to-head against the #10 seeded MSSU earlier in the season.
Chancellor Dugan is entering her 8th season at the realm for the Knights. She has led the Knights to their first ever GLVC conference tournament title in school history. Last season the Kinghts advanced to the GLVC conference title game as well but were unable to pull out the win.Â
ALL-TIME SERIES
Southwest Baptist trails in the all-time series against Bellarmine 1-0. The last time the Bearcats faced them was in 1989-90 and the Bearcats lost 64-74. Southwest Baptist looks to even up the all time series with a win this time.Â
