Last Time Out
The Bearcats defeated Kentucky Wesleyan in another road game, 20-13.
Eric Knight led the Bearcat offense, rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.
Dylan Mountain also completed 10-20 passes for 119 yards in the win. The highlight of the game was a 4th and 1 fake punt pass from
Logan Claborn to
Cory Hanger. That play went for a 62-yard touchdown and was the game winning score in the 4th quarter.
The Greyhounds took on GLVC opponent McKendree for their conference opener last weekend, defeating the Bearcats 63-21. In that win, Indy quarterback
TJ Edwards threw for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns, also throwing an interception. The team also racked up 338 yards on the ground, and had 585 yards of total offense. The Greyhounds also had quite a bit of success on 3rd down, converting 9-12.
The Coaches & The All-Time Series
Robert Clardy begins his 5th season as the head coach of the Bearcats. The 2016 was historic for Clardy and the Bearcats, making their first ever NCAA Playoff appearance, National Ranking, and Conference Championship. Due to their success, Clardy was named 2016 GLVC Coach of the Year. In his 4 year stint, Clardy has helped collect 56 All-GLVC Player Awards, 6 All-Americans, and coached the 2015 GLVC Freshman of the Year. Clardy wasn't new to SBU when he took the head coaching reigns in 2015. Clardy played for the Bearcats from 2003-06, leading the team in total offense for 3 seasons and rushing and scoring for 2 seasons. He currently holds SBU's pass completion percentage record and sits top 10 in 11 SBU Career Records. Following his career as a player, Clardy joined the coaching staff as an assistant up until he was named head coach for the 2015 season.
Chris Keevers is new to the head coaching position at UIndy, but he is not new to the team. Keevers has spent the past 25 years on the Greyhound sideline, serving as the defensive coordinator. Last season, the UIndy defense was ranked 13th in the nation in pass defense, 15th in scoring defense, and 18th in total defense. The team defeated Fort Hays State in the NCAA DII Playoffs last season, but fell to #4 ranked Ouachita Baptist in the second round.
Southwest Baptist trails the all-time series against Indianapolis, 1-4. The last time these teams faced off was 2018 where the Bearcats fell to the Greyhounds 14-48 in Bolvar. SBU's win in the series came in 2016 where the Bearcats outshot the Greyhounds 41-37.
