Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Football team laid down a smacking on Central State Saturday evening, defeating the Marauders by a score of 38-3. Leading the Bearcats was Junior
Dylan Mountain who rushed for 155 yards and threw for 167 yards with 3 touchdowns on the night.
SBU received the ball first but was forced to punt after a three-and-out. On the very first CSU offensive play,
Tevin Hall intercepted the pass, setting SBU up on the opposing 14-yard line. It took the Bearcats just one play to score, a
Dylan Mountain 14-yard run, 7-0 SBU. After a couple possession changes, the Bearcats got the ball back with 6:26 left in the first. Mountain connected with
Eric Knight for 28 yards and Mountain also had a 27-yard rush, leading to a field goal. The Marauders attempted a 49-yard field goal later in the quarter, but it fell short.
The Bearcats had the ball and were driving to begin the second quarter.
Dylan Mountain had several huge rushes on the drive, and it was capped off with an outstanding 32-yard catch in the end zone by
Curtis Cuillard. The PAT failed, resulting in a 16-0 score. On the next CSU possession, the Marauders drove down and kicked a field goal to cut the lead to 16-3. A poor punt by the Marauders gave SBU starting field position on the CSU 35 with 6:04 to go in the half.
Eric Knight pounded the ball into the end zone on a 10-yard rush, pushing the SBU lead to 22-3. The score would remain the same as the teams headed into the locker room for halftime.
CSU began with the ball in the 3
rd quarter, driving down the field, when
DJ Davis intercepted the ball on the SBU 12-yard line. The Bearcats were forced to punt on that possession, but a muffed punt set SBU up on the CSU 27.
Dylan Mountain took off for another 12 yards, but the ball squirted out at the end of the run, giving possession back to the Marauders. On SBU's next drive, Mountain found Cuillard in the end zone once again, making the score 29-3. CSU was driving into SBU territory on the next possession when a fumble was forced and
Cory Hanger picked it up. Hanger took the ball all the way down to the 4-yard line where the Bearcats set up shop. They were stopped on three consecutive rush plays, setting up a 22-yard
Kyle Ghetes field goal, 32-3 SBU.
Early in the 4
th,
Dylan Mountain connected with
Bryce Cabrera for 43 yards, putting SBU on the CSU 10-yard line.
Bryce Cabrera finished the drive, rushing twice to find the end zone, creating a final score of 38-3.
Dylan Mountain had a phenomenal day, going 12-20 for 167 yards and 2 TDs in the air, as well as 18 rushes for 155 yards and a TD on the ground.
Brenden Smith came in late in the game and rushed for 49 yards on 5 carries.
Curtis Cuillard snagged 7 balls for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night.
On defense,
Darius Powe had 7 total tackles and a pass breakup.
Asa Carter,
DJ Davis, and
Cory Hanger each added 6 tackles.
The Bearcats hit the road next Saturday, traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan for another non-conference matchup. That kickoff will be at 3 PM.
