Bearcats Fall in Close Doubleheader with UCO


Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist fell at home in the first two games of their final home stand of the year, 6-1 and 3-2. These two losses bring the Bearcats record to 19-30 (10-22 MIAA) for the season.

Game One
Cory Dudley got the start in the first game of the series, allowing four runs on six hits. The Bronchos got on the board first scoring 6 before the Bearcats responded. The comeback bid in the ninth was started on a Hunter Hisky single up the middle. Noah Tucker drove Samuel Avila in later that inning on a single to left field making it 6-1.

Parker Dent and Quinn Appletoft combined to allow no runs to end the first game. Hunter Hisky, Tyler Mathys, Noah Tucker, and Blake Lutgen each had one hit apiece. Tucker also drove in the lone run for the game.

Game Two
The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first and another in the fourth. Samuel Avila drove in Carl Schwettmann in the first on a single up the middle. Tyler Mathys reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth and was later brought in by Hayden Crabtree. Central Oklahoma scored three in the top of the eighth to make the final 3-2.

Dalton Morrow pitched 7.1 innings only allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Samuel Avila led the battle at the plate going 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Tyler Mathys and Carl Schwettmann scored the two runs for the Bearcats.

Southwest Baptist will be back in action with the last game of the year on May 5 at Dodson Field. The game is scheduled to start at 1 PM.
