Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The SBU Men's Tennis season came to a close Wednesday afternoon. In the Elite Eight portion of the NCAA Division II National Tournament, #3 nationally ranked Hawai'i Pacific defeated Southwest Baptist by a score of 4-2, putting an end to the Bearcats season.
In doubles play, the Sharks took the first match on court #2, winning 6-3. They then locked down the doubles point after a tie break victory on court #1. The score was tied up at 6-6 when the Sharks won 7-3 in the tie break, taking the set 7-6 and jumping to a 1-0 lead thanks to the doubles point.
Hawai'i Pacific continued their strong play into singles, taking a quick second point on court #5. After a tough battle on court #4, the Sharks also won that point, jumping to a 3-0 lead.
Gyorgy Agoston then defeated his opponent on court #3 6-3, 4-6, and 6-4 putting the Bearcats on the board.
Marcel Castello followed with a victory as well, winning 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 on court #6. The Bearcats continued to battle, but the #3 ranked Sharks came out on top after winning on court #2.
Adham Gaber was in a third set tie breaker as the match on court #2 ended, both Gaber and his opponent were tied 5-5 in the tie break.
The Bearcats finish their historic season with a record of 19-3, making it all the way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
