Edmond, Okla. – A strong season for the women's tennis team came to a close Monday afternoon after falling to Southern Arkansas in the first round of the Regional Tournament. The #4 seeded Southern Arkansas Muleriders defeated #5 seeded SBU by a score of 4-3.
Leading off the match with doubles play, Southern Arkansas jumped ahead with a victory on court #2.
Sarah Brown and
Diana Cabrera evened the doubles score on court #3, defeating their opponents in a tough battle, 7-5. The battle for the doubles point was won by the Muleriders, taking the decisive match on court #1 by a score of 6-4 and giving SAU a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Dona Abohabaga quickly evened the overall score with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court #6. Southern Arkansas then bounced back, winning on court #4.
Sarah Brown defeated her opponent in two straight sets on court #5, evening the score once again. The Bearcats took their first lead of the day following
Constanca Crespo's victory on court #2, winning in straight sets. Southern Arkansas wasn't out yet, tying the score at 3-3 after their win on court #1.
Klara Vickov battled extremely well on court #3, taking her opponent to three sets and into a tie break, but the Muleriders came out on top, making the final score 4-3.
