Bolivar, Mo. – SBU competed against Missouri S&T for the second time this season, this game going down as a home competition for the Bearcats. Earlier in the year, S&T won 7-1 and the Miners claimed a 9-4 victory Wednesday afternoon. The loss brings SBU to 16-26 (8-19 MIAA).
The first inning was quick for the Miners as
Drew Wagner retired the batters in order to begin the game.
Carl Schwettmann picked up a single in the first inning, but a double play retired the first three Bearcats in order as well. Missouri S&T struck first, scoring 3 runs in the 2
nd inning. In the bottom of the 4
th,
Hunter Hisky smacked a double to left field to lead off the inning. Sam Avila then reached on a walk, bringing up
Jackson Soule who singled up the middle to score Hisky from second. Both Avila and Soule advanced on a balk before
Tyler Mathys walked to load the bases. The second run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly from
Noah Tucker, bringing the score to 3-2 Miners.
Missouri S&T scored again in the 5
th, boosting their lead to 4-2.
Carl Schwettmann doubled to lead off the bottom of the 5
th and later stole third, but wouldn't come around to score. The Miners struck again in the 6
th and again in the 7
th, making the score 7-2.
Carl Schwettmann continued his big day at the plate, leading off the 7
th with a home run to left field, cutting the lead to 7-3. The Miners got that run back in the 8
th, 8-3.
Blake Hobbs came to the plate with two on in the bottom of the 8
th, driving a single to center field that scored a run. S&T scored once more before the end of the game, creating a 9-4 final score.
Carl Schwettmann led the Bearcats offensively, going 3-5 with a double and a home run. The other 5 hits were divided amongst as many batters.
The Bearcats hit the road in their next competition, heading to Missouri Western for a weekend series starting on Friday, April 26 with game time set for 7 PM.
