Esports 18-19: Season Review

4/22/2019 3:51:00 PM

Bolivar, Mo. - Amidst many changes to the program, including structure and leadership, SBU Esports teams have finished their 18-19 season.

SBU Esports' Varsity League of Legends team finished the fall 2018 pre-season with a record of 2-2 losing only to Illinois Tech and Rutgers University, two nationally ranked teams. The match against Rutgers was the final match of the season, and although the score indicated a loss, our bearcats showed their improvement and fought very well as a team. In the spring 2019 Collegiate League of Legends regular season SBU Esports finished with a record of 2-4, including a solid victory against Missouri Baptist University. The SBU League of Legends team was defeated in the first round of postseason play.

SBU Esports entered a second game title to compete in at the varsity level this year. A Varsity Rocket League team was unveiled for 2019 and competed in Collegiate Starleague's spring season. The Bearcat Rocket League team finished with a record of 2-4, exhibiting tremendous individual and team improvements throughout their inaugural season, narrowly missing playoffs by 1 game.

Students from around the world are eager for the opportunity to participate in esports on SBU's faith-based campus. The esports program has directly influenced some students' decisions to become a bearcat with hopes of supporting or participating in the program. If you are interested in participating with SBU Esports, email Coach Dugger at tdugger@sbuniv.edu or fill out a recruitment questionnaire!
