Tahlequah, Okla. – In game one of the three game series with Northeastern State, the Bearcats fell 11-17 to the Riverhawks. The loss moves the Bearcats to 10-18 (4-12 MIAA) in the 2019 season.
Hunter Hisky got the first of 15 Bearcat hits in the first inning, driving the ball down the right field line with two outs. The Riverhawks made the most of their first inning, scoring 5 runs to go up 5-0. Similar to the first inning,
Hayden Crabtree smacked a two out double to center field, but he wouldn't advance any further. NSU continued their offense, scoring another in the second.
In the top of the third,
Tyler Mathys homered to left center on the first pitch he saw, putting SBU on the board.
Caleb Sneed followed with a single and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt that turned into a hit for
Carl Schwettmann.
Hunter Hisky then drove Sneed in, doubling to left center. After an out,
Jackson Soule hit a single to left center, driving in Schwettmann and Hisky to make the score 4-6. The next batter was Sam Avila who singled to the pitcher, allowing Soule to advance to third. Soule later came around to score on a wild pitch, cutting NSU's lead to just 6-5.
SBU continued to stay hot into the 4
th inning.
Tyler Mathys singled to lead things off, and later stole second to get into scoring position.
Carl Schwettmann then drew a walk, and
Hunter Hisky loaded the bases on a catcher's interference.
Noah Tucker was able to bring the tying run in on a sacrifice fly, 6-6. The Riverhawks quickly regained the lead, scoring 2 in the 5
th and another in the 6
th to go ahead 9-6. Northeastern really opened the game in the 7
th, scoring 5 runs to take a 14-6 lead. With one out in the 8
th,
Caleb Sneed gathered another hit to get a rally going. The next batter was
Carl Schwettmann who drove one over the fence in right center to bring the Bearcats within 6.
Hunter Hisky kept the momentum going with a double to right center, bringing
Brett Mitchell to the plate. Mitchell singled to center, putting runners on first and second for
Jackson Soule who homered to make the score 11-14.
Trevor Lofstrom singled up the middle with two outs, but SBU wouldn't score again in the inning. NSU responded with 3 more runs, creating a final score of 11-17.
Hunter Hisky went 3-5 on the day, adding to his career doubles total.

Tyler Mathys also had a multi-hit game. Along with his 2 hits,
Jackson Soule drove in 5 RBIs and scored twice.
SBU is set to take on NSU for game two of the series on Saturday starting at 2 PM.
