Bearcats Fall to Lions 66-70 in Final Game of the Season

St. Charles, Mo. – The SBU Women's Basketball team wrapped up their season against Lindenwood Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lions 66-70. The Bearcats ended 10-18 with a 6-13 MIAA record, narrowly missing the conference tournament.
 
Caylee Richardson got things going, scoring a layup to open the game. Lindenwood took the lead shortly after before Laura Vierkant nailed a three to go up 5-4. With 4:47 to go in the first, the game was tied up at 8-8, but SBU gained the lead and held it a majority of the first quarter. Madison Strong made a three pointer, followed by a three point play from Morgan Henderson to Caylee Richardson. The Lions scored on back to back possessions, taking a 19-22 lead into the second quarter.
 
Regan Tibbits opened the second with a couple of free throws, bringing the Bearcats back within one. Later in the quarter, Bailey Rezabek scored on back to back SBU possessions, helping tie the score at 27 a piece. Over the next minute and a half, the Bearcats went on a 7-0 lead starting with a Laura Vierkant free throw and ending with two Bailey Rezabek free throws. The SBU lead shifted between 3 and 5 for the remainder of the quarter, with SBU in front 40-36 at the half.
 
It was Caylee Richardson once again getting things going for SBU after the break. Lindenwood quickly erased SBU's lead, evening things up at 42 each. The teams then traded leads several times with Lindenwood controlling things with 3:34 to go in the third. Regan Tibbits made a layup with 2:18 to go, getting SBU within one, but the Lions ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, leading 56-48 at the end of the third.
 
To begin the fourth quarter, Caylee Richardson scored a jumper, followed by two free throws, cutting the Lindenwood lead down to just 4. After a Lion basket, Richardson, Laura Vierkant, and Bailey Rezabek scored back to back to back to bring the Lion lead to 58-59. With 1:02 to go, Regan Tibbits scored a layup, getting SBU within 3. After some Lindenwood free throws, Bailey Rezabek and Regan Tibbits each made two free throws, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell 66-70.
 
Caylee Richardson went 7-14 from the field, scoring 17 points in her final game as a Bearcat. Bailey Rezabek also scored 17, and dished out 3 assists as well. Regan Tibbits was the other Bearcat in double digits, going 5-8 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line to give her 15 points.
 
Missouri Southern defeated Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, finishing with the same conference record as the Bearcats. In the tie for the 10th place spot, Southern defeated SBU in their only meeting this season, winning the tie breaker and sending Missouri Southern to the MIAA tournament in the 10 spot.
