St. Charles, Mo. – The SBU Men's Basketball team played their final regular season game against Lindenwood, falling 68-82. The men finished with a 13-15 record, 7-12 MIAA record.
It took both teams over a minute to break the scoreless tie, but Lindenwood struck first on a layup. The Lions scored again before SBU made a bucket, but SBU got on the board in a big way; a
Karim Mouliom dunk with an assist from
Quinn Nelson. It was Nelson scoring next for the Bearcats, hitting a three to give SBU their first lead, 5-4. The Lions quickly went up 5-12 before Nelson hit another three to keep SBU within 4. The home team made another layup, but it was senior
Andy Campbell doing what he does best, hitting a three to pull SBU within 3. Lindenwood held a 16-11 lead at the second media timeout.
The Lindenwood Lions came out of the timeout very hot, going on a 14-0 run to give them a 30-11 lead.
Chris Rossow then completed the and-one play, giving SBU 14 points. With 3:06 to go in the half,
Quinn Nelson hit another three, pulling SBU within 11. Nelson rounded out the scoring for the Bearcats heading into the half, scoring one more three and making two free throws. SBU trailed 26-37 at the half.
Lindenwood scored first following the break, but
Chris Rossow answered quickly, hitting a three pointer to bring the Bearcats within 10. On SBU's next possession,
Maris Colton scored a layup and was fouled, completing the three point play. Colton scored the next Bearcat bucket as well, cutting the Lion lead to 41-34. With 11:58 remaining in the game, it was
Quinn Nelson hitting another three on an assist by
Chris Rossow. At the second media timeout, SBU trailed 43-60.
Karim Mouliom hit two free throws shortly after the media timeout, and threw down a dunk on SBU's next possession. The Lions kept applying pressure, extending their lead. Mouliom scored another two points with 6:32 reading on the clock, trailing the Lions by 21. The Bearcats battled hard all the way to the end,
Godfrey Rolle scoring a layup and two free throws to bring the game to an end. The Lions took it, 82-68, splitting the season series with SBU 1-1.
Quinn Nelson was on fire from three point range, making 5 beyond the arch, helping him score 19. Senior
Karim Mouliom also posted 19, going 6-10 from the field and 7-10 from the free throw line, as well as grabbing 8 rebounds.
The final MIAA standings will be released later tonight, revealing the MIAA tournament schedule.
