Bolivar, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods came to town Saturday afternoon for the second meeting of the 2018-19 season. WU defeated SBU 69-58, moving SBU to 6-16 (2-11 MIAA) on the year.
Bailey Rezabek dished a pass to
Caylee Richardson to get the Bearcats on the board first. Washburn responded with back to back three's to take an early 4 point lead. After a couple Bearcat free throws and an Ichabod layup, Richardson nailed a three to bring the score to 8-7. About halfway through the first quarter, Washburn stretched their lead to 14-7.
Caylee Richardson hit two more three's, and
Regan Tibbits made a layup to bring the Bearcats within 1 as the clock read 1:39.
Sydney Bandy scored a layup with 5 seconds left, giving SBU a 19-18 lead going into the second quarter.
The teams traded leads early in the second. Washburn took a three point lead with 7:23 to go, but
Regan Tibbits hit a three to tie things up. After the three, the Ichabods went on a 9-0 run to end the half, taking a 33-24 lead into halftime.
Washburn extended their lead to 14 with 6:20 left in the third. A few possessions later,
Laura Vierkant made a three. After an Ichabod layup,
Caylee Richardson scored a layup, stole the ball on Washburn's next possession, leading to a
Madison Strong score. SBU got within 7 as the quarter ended, 52-45.
The Ichabods scored first in the final quarter, but
Morgan Henderson made two free throws shortly after. For the remainder of the quarter, the visitors held around a 10 point lead. A
Brylee Graddy jumper with just over a minute left brought the Bearcats within 7, but the game finished 69-58 in favor of the Ichabods.
Caylee Richardson had 15 points and 8 rebounds, and also recorded a block and 2 steals.
Morgan Henderson scored 11 points and 4 rebounds.
SBU hits the road next week, taking on Missouri Western on February 13 and Northwest Missouri State on February 16.
