Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats played host to the Ichabods in their second meeting of the season on Saturday. Washburn came out on top, defeating SBU 74-65. The loss brings SBU to 11-11 (5-8 MIAA) on the year.
The Ichabods played extremely tough defense to begin the game. They jumped to a 6-0 lead early in the half.
Karim Mouliom got the Bearcats on the board with a tough layup. The Ichabods hit a three to take a 9-2 lead, but a
Chris Rossow free throw and an
Adnan Jahic three pointer brought the score to 9-6. Jahic scored on SBU's next possession, followed by a
Godfrey Rolle three.
Maris Colton scored back to back buckets, bringing the Bearcats within two.
Neither team scored for almost three minutes, until
Karim Mouliom slammed home a dunk from
Chris Rossow. Washburn took a 10 point lead with 6:11 left in the half, and pushed their lead to 14 with 4:24 remaining.
Godfrey Rolle then hit a three and
Karim Mouliom made a jumper.
Godfrey Rolle then drained 2 free throws before the Ichabods went on a 6-0 run to end the half, 27-40.
The Bearcats came out of the break extremely hot. They went on a 19-3 run, taking the lead with 15:01 remaining. The run began with a
Karim Mouliom layup. During the run,
Godfrey Rolle and
Quinn Nelson both hit three's and
Karim Mouliom had two monster dunks, shifting the momentum to the Bearcats. The Ichabods responded with 7 straight points before
Chris Rossow and Mouliom hit back to back three's.
Washburn regained the lead and stretched it out to 5 with 9:28 to go.
Chris Rossow and
Karim Mouliom hit 4 straight free throws to get within 1 of the Ichabods. With 5:49 left,
Tyler Williams made a three as the shot clock expired. The visitors scored 6 straight to build an 8 point lead with 4:10 to go. The Bearcats were unable to mount the comeback, falling 65-74.
Karim Mouliom finished one rebound short of another double-double, scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.
Godfrey Rolle scored a team high 18 points, and
Chris Rossow contributed 10 points and 3 rebounds.
The Bearcats hit the road next week for games against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.
