Richardson and Smith Shine on Senior Day Against Northwest


Bolivar, Mo. – The purple Bearcats routed the green Bearcats in their second matchup of the season on SBU's senior day. SBU defeated Northwest 79-66 to take a 2-0 record against Northwest. Southwest Baptist improves to 9-17 (5-12 MIAA) on the year.
 
Northwest struck first with a three pointer, but SBU wasn't phased; Laura Vierkant hit a three to even the score. Northwest scored back to back putting them up 7-3, but RayShee Smith, Morgan Henderson, and Bailey Rezabek all made layups to take a 9-7 lead. With just over 3 minutes left in the quarter, Regan Tibbits scored 4 straight to extend SBU's lead. RayShee Smith hit a three with 54 seconds left and Tibbits scored another bucket, giving SBU a 21-12 lead at the end of the first.
 
The second started in a similar manner as the first with Northwest making a three. Caylee Richardson scored SBU's first basket in the second on a layup. With just over 6 minutes remaining in the half, Northwest got within 7 thanks to a three, but Caylee Richardson wasted no time responding with a three of her own. Following her three, Morgan Henderson wanted in on the action, making a three as well. Zahria White completed a three point play with 40 seconds to go, and made a jumper right before time expired, making SBU's lead 44-30 going into halftime.
 
RayShee Smith got things going in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 16 on a layup. Northwest quickly hit a three, but it was Richardson responding with a three as well. The teams went back and forth until the 3:06 mark. SBU went on a 6-3 run to end the quarter, giving them a 60-41 lead heading into the final quarter.
 
SBU kept their foot on the gas, extending their lead to 23 early in the quarter. Richardson scored back to back layups followed by a Bailey Rezabek three pointer. The SBU lead fluctuated between 17 and 20 points for a majority of the quarter. With 1:57 to go, Northwest got within 14 points, before RayShee Smith and Zahria White each made a layup. The visitors hit a three with 22 seconds left, making a final score of 79-66 in favor of Southwest Baptist.
 
Senior Caylee Richardson had 17 points and 9 rebounds, along with 4 assists and 2 steals. Senior RayShee Smith also contributed 15 points and 3 rebounds, going 6-10 from the field. Bailey Rezabek and Zahria White were both in double digits as well, scoring 14 and 10 points respectively.
 
The Bearcats finish the season on the road, playing at Lincoln on February 27 and at Lindenwood on March 2.
