Oklahoma City, Okla. – The softball team traveled to OKC Tuesday afternoon to take on Oklahoma Christian. The Eagles took both games by scores of 8-0 and 5-0, moving SBU's record to 0-7 (0-0 MIAA).
Game 1
Oklahoma Christian got off to a hot start offensively, plating 4 runs in the first inning. In the top of the second,
Sam Moran led off with a single to right field, but she would later be caught stealing to end the SBU threat. The Eagles scored another in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Megan Schellert singled to the shortstop to lead things off.
Paige St. Pierre was able to move Schellert over with a sacrifice bunt, but she would be stranded there as the inning came to an end. Another Oklahoma Christian run was scored in the fourth, giving them a 6-0 lead.
With one out in the fifth,
Emily Hall wore a pitch to put her on first, and
Nicole Horstman drew a walk to put runners on first and second for the Bearcats. A strikeout and ground out would end the inning before the runs could score. In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles scored two more, giving them an 8-0 lead, and ending the game due to the run rule.
Megan Schellert and
Sam Moran both went 1-2 in the game.
Game 2
Megan Schellert led off the game with a single to the shortstop.
Rachel Brown reached on a fielder's choice and Schellert advanced to second on a throwing error. Unfortunately, a double play and a foul out would end the inning.
Kaylee Schmidli got the start for the Bearcats. Oklahoma Christian led off the first with a hit, but Schmidli retired the next three batters in order to keep the game scoreless.
Miranda Aguilar singled with one out in the second, but a fly out and a ground out kept her from scoring. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. SBU made a threat offensively in the fourth with hits from
Nicole Horstman and
Yezzania Gonzalez, but no runs would score.
In the bottom of the fifth, the home team plated two more runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Bearcats were able to get runners at second and third with just one out in the 6th, but Oklahoma Christian was able to get out of the jam unharmed. The Eagles would score once more before the end of the game, taking it 5-0.
Rachel Brown led the Bearcats offensively, collecting two hits.

Yezzania Gonzalez each had one hit.
The Bearcats will have their home opener on Thursday, February 14 at 12:00 PM against Wayne State College.
