Bearcats to Host Central Christian College of the Bible

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (5-2, 0-1 GLVC) returns home after falling to the Drury Panthers 70-76 in Springfield on Tuesday evening. The Bearcats will host Central Christian College of the Bible Friday evening. Game time is set for 7:00 PM at the Meyer Sports Center. 

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In their most recent competition, the Bearcats fell to Drury in their conference opener, 70-76. They trailed by 16 late in the 1st half but came back to a deficit of just 1 with 38 seconds left. Damian Prgomet finished 1 rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Brady Smith led both teams with 16 points and added 7 rebounds.

The Bearcats come into the 2019-20 season following an appearance in the MIAA Tournament last season. Finishing with a 13-15 (7-12 MIAA) regular season record, the Bearcats received the #10 seed in the conference tournament. In the first round, SBU edged out #7 Lindenwood 76-75, becoming the first #10 seed to win a game in the MIAA Tournament and picking up their first conference tournament win since 2006. Washburn put an end to SBU's run in the second round with a 77-58 final score. The Bearcats are now full-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which consists of 16 teams. Lindenwood is also making the move from the MIAA to the GLVC. Three starters return for SBU, Godfrey Rolle, Damian Prgomet, and Quinn Nelson. In addition to those three starters, Tyler Williams and Lucas Brueggemann also return from last year's roster. This year's roster consists of 16 total players, 11 of those being new faces. The breakdown of the roster is 2 seniors, 5 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 5 freshmen. 

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
The Central Christian College of the Bible Saints (Moberly, MO) have begun the 2019-20 season with a 5-3 (0-0 MCCC) start. They started the season with two wins against Lincoln Christian and Union College, but fell to MacMurray by one point to suffer their first loss. On November 30, the Saints played the UCM Mules in an exhibition where the Mules won 82-46. Clifford Deitege led the Saints in scoring, collecting 18 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. In their most recent competition, the Saints defeated Union College once again, this game by a score of 106- 42. Trey Black leads CCCB in scoring on the season, averaging 17.5 points per game. Clifford Deitege is the other Saint in double-digit scoring with 12.5 points per game. He is also second in rebounds per game with 6.3.

THE COACHES
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 62-83 (32-66 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 244-189 across fourteen seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 22 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Jack Defreitas returns as the head coach for the Saints, his 9th season in the position. Defreitas is currently the program's all-time wins leader with 93 wins. In his tenure at CCCB, Defreitas has led the Saints to 3 conference titles and a national tournament appearance. Last season, the Saints finished with a 13-15 (3-3 MCCC) record.
