Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (3-1, 0-0 GLVC) continues play in Bolivar after defeating the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans 89-72 Tuesday evening. The Bearcats will play host to Williams Baptist on Saturday, November 23 with tip-off set for 3:30 PM.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
In SBU's last game, the Bearcats downed the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans 89-72. In the win, former Trojan,
Brady Smith, scored 19 points and snagged 7 rebounds.
Damian Prgomet also contributed 20 points and
Godfrey Rolle added 19.
The Bearcats come into the 2019-20 season following an appearance in the MIAA Tournament last season. Finishing with a 13-15 (7-12 MIAA) regular season record, the Bearcats received the #10 seed in the conference tournament. In the first round, SBU edged out #7 Lindenwood 76-75, becoming the first #10 seed to win a game in the MIAAÂ Tournament and picking up their first conference tournament win since 2006. Washburn put an end to SBU's run in the second round with a 77-58 final score. The Bearcats are now full-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which consists of 16 teams. Lindenwood is also making the move from the MIAAÂ to the GLVC. Three starters return for SBU,
Godfrey Rolle,
Damian Prgomet, and
Quinn Nelson. In addition to those three starters,
Tyler Williams and
Lucas Brueggemann also return from last year's roster. This year's roster consists of 16 total players, 11 of those being new faces. The breakdown of the roster is 2 seniors, 5 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 5 freshmen.Â
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Williams Baptist Eagles (Walnut Ridge, AR) come into Saturday's contest with a 1-3 (0-1 AMC) record on the season. They started the year with a loss to Baptist Bible College, then picked up their first win against Ecclesia 89- 68. In their most recent competition, the Eagles fell to conference opponent Park University 70-78 at home. Travon Cobb leads the team in points per game, averaging 15.5 through 4 this season. Marquez Chew has totaled 19 assists, and Shackeel Butters already has 53 rebounds.
THE COACHES
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 62-83 (32-66 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 244-189 across fourteen seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 22 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Josh Austin returns as the head coach for Williams Baptist. Austin's first season in the position was 2011-12. During his time at WBU, Austin has recorded a 114-112 record. Last season, the Eagles finished 11-16 (8- 14 AMC), making it all the way to the conference championship for the first time in school history.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bearcats have played against Williams Baptist 5 times, with SBU winning all five contests. Last season, SBU hosted Williams Baptist and defeated them 99-71.
Damian Prgomet was a perfect 8-8 from the field and nearly perfect from the free throw line at 8-9, scoring 24 points with 8 rebounds.
Godfrey Rolle also added 16 points and 6 rebounds, and
Quinn Nelson hit 5 three's for 15 points as well.Â
