St. Joseph, Mo. - Southwest Baptist (1-0, 0-0 GLVC) opened the season with a win against Missouri Baptist at home. The Bearcats played well scoring 89 points on 58.6% shooting and holding the Spartans to 64 points on 36.6% shooting.Â
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats come into the 2019-20 season following a 10-18 (6-13 MIAA) regular season record. Prior to last season, the Bearcats had gone three consecutive years with winning records. The Bearcats are now full-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which consists of 16 teams. Lindenwood is also making the move from the MIAA to the GLVC. Just one starter returns for SBU,Â

Megan Worthington. This year's roster consists of 16 total players, 8 of those being new faces. The breakdown of the roster is 4 seniors, 6 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 3 freshmen.Â
SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Missouri Western come into the matchup against the Bearcats having won their last game against Minnesota Duluth 77-61. They are 1-1 on the season and have 2 players averaging more than 15 points per game. Chris Wilson has been the main contributer for the Griffins, averaging 20.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 1 block per game. Missouri Western lost their second leading scorer from the previous season but have 6 seniors on the current roster to help with leading the team.Â
THE COACHES
SBU head coachÂ
Kelsey Keizer begins her sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 66-76 (35-63 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-MIAA honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as SBU lost the head-to-head against the #10 seeded MSSU earlier in the season.
Candi Whitaker is the head coach for the Griffins and is starting her first year. She previously was head coach at Texas Tech University and has a career record of 131-175. Whitaker has most recently lead the Red Raiders to four consecutive Big 12 Championship appearances.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bearcats have faced off against the Griffins a total of 55 times and have won 21 of those meetings. Southwest Baptist won the last meeting between the two teams 82-62 on a 19 point performance from
Bailey Rezabek. The Bearcats will be without two of their top scorers this year but have added more weapons to replace them.Â
