SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats come into the 2019-20 season following a 10-18 (6-13 MIAA) regular season record. Prior to last season, the Bearcats had gone three consecutive years with winning records. The Bearcats are now full-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference which consists of 16 teams. Lindenwood is also making the move from the MIAA to the GLVC. Just one starter returns for SBU,
Bailey Rezabek. In addition to Rezabek,
Tyra Kidd and
Zahria White also return from for their senior campaign. Other key returners include
Regan Tibbits,
Sydney Bandy,
Taliayah Wilson,
Brylee Graddy, and
Megan Worthington. This year's roster consists of 16 total players, 8 of those being new faces. The breakdown of the roster is 4 seniors, 6 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 3 freshmen.Â
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Missouri Baptist Spartans come into Tuesday's game with an 0-3 record to begin the year. In their most recent competition, MBU fell to Olivet Nazarene by a score of 77-86. The Spartans had three players with 10+ points, Alexis Allstun with 17, Taylor Norris with 14, and Tionne Taylor with 14. Taylor leads the Spartans this season, averaging 17.0 points per game with 12 steals. Allstun is the team's leading rebounder, collecting 22 so far this season.
THE COACHES
SBU head coach
Kelsey Keizer begins her sixth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 66-76 (35-63 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Keizer led two Bearcats to All-MIAA honors last season, and fell just short of the conference tournament as SBU lost the head-to-head against the #10 seeded MSSU earlier in the season.
Samuel Pearson is entering his first season on the Missouri Baptist bench. In March of 2018, Pearson was named the women's head basketball coach after serving as an assistant coach for the Spartans. Pearson was an assistant in 2017-18 when Missouri Baptist had their highest win total since 2010-11, winning 14 games.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Bearcats have played against Missouri Baptist a total of 11 times, winning each of those competitions. Last season, the Bearcats defeated the Spartans 83-65. SBU had a 30-point 3rd quarter to help them over MBU. In that game,
Bailey Rezabek had 16 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
