Richardson and Henderson Near Double-Doubles as Bearcats Fall to Pitt State

Pittsburg, Kan. – Southwest Baptist visited Pitt State to take on the Gorillas in an MIAA matchup Wednesday evening. The Bearcats fell to the Gorillas 63-88, moving their record to 4-10 (0-5 MIAA).
 
Pitt State scored the first 7 points of the game, SBU gained their first bucket on a Morgan Henderson layup. The Gorillas quickly pushed their lead to 10, but baskets from Morgan Henderson and Caylee Richardson kept SBU within 6. After a PSU score, Madison Strong hit a three pointer, followed by another Morgan Henderson layup to bring SBU within 3 points. With 40 seconds remaining in the quarter, Sydney Bandy made a layup, creating a 15-21 PSU lead at the end of the first.
 
The first three buckets of the second quarter went to PSU. Bailey Rezabek nailed a three pointer, then Zahria White scored a layup to cut the Gorilla's lead back down to 7. The teams went back and forth, PSU extending their lead, but Rezabeck made a layup with 10 seconds left in the half, making the score 29-40 in favor of the Gorillas.
 
The Bearcats came out hot, scoring a quick layup and a three pointer on their following possession. Pitt State responded with a basket and a couple free throws, but Sydney Bandy kept the Bearcats in the game with a layup to cut PSU's lead back to 6. Pitt State quickly boosted their lead to 12. A layup from Taliayah Wilson and a jumper from Morgan Henderson helped SBU's offense, but the Gorillas were quick to respond. PSU finished the quarter strong offensively, pushing their lead to 13 as the quarter ended 50-63.
 
PSU picked up where they left off, scoring the first points of the fourth. Two Caylee Richardson free throws got SBU on the board in the fourth quarter, followed by one Zahria White free throw, but Pitt State made up for those points, making a three on their next possession. The next four Bearcat points would also come from White, but the home team kept their lead, 81-57 with 4:44 left. Caylee Richardson and Megan Worthington both scored baskets before the end of regulation, but the Gorillas took the W, 88-63.
 
Caylee Richardson finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Morgan Henderson was the other Bearcat in double digit points, scoring 10 and grabbing 8 rebounds.
 
SBU travels to Joplin Saturday afternoon, taking on the MSSU Lions at 1:30 PM.
