Mouliom Scores a Double-Double in Loss to Gorillas

Pittsburg, Kan. – Southwest Baptist visited Pitt State to take on the Gorillas in an MIAA matchup Wednesday evening. The Bearcats fell to the Gorillas 76-87, moving their record to 8-6 (2-3 MIAA).
 
Damian Prgomet scored the first basket of the game. PSU responded with two layups, but Quinn Nelson nailed a three to give SBU a one point lead early on. A layup by Karim Mouliom, a Pitt State layup, and a Godfrey Rolle jumper gave SBU a two point lead at the first media timeout. Following the break, Mouliom and Tyler Williams made baskets to stretch SBU's lead to five. The teams went back and forth, evening the score at 18 at the halfway point in the 1st half.
 
Two free throws gave Pitt State the lead. Maris Colton made a free throw, then the Gorillas scored 11 straight. Quinn Nelson hit a three to break up the run, followed by a Tyler Williams layup and a Chris Rossow three point play. With 9 seconds left in the half, Karim Mouliom made a dunk, but PSU would score a bucket right before halftime, making the score 32-42 Pitt State at the half.
 
Identical to the first half, Damian Prgomet had the first points of the second half. Pitt State made a three on their first possession, but Quinn Nelson quickly responded with a three of his own. The teams battled hard, going back and forth. The score was 45-55 at the first media timeout. PSU came out of the break with two free throw makes, followed by a Karim Mouliom layup. Mouliom would score the next two buckets for the Bearcats as well. Godfrey Rolle scored two quick baskets before the halfway point in the second half, creating a 56-63 score.
 
Maris Colton scored a layup to bring the Bearcats within 5 with 8:36 left in the game. The home team pushed their lead back up to 12 with just over 5 minutes remaining. Quinn Nelson and Godfrey Rolle made three pointers before time ran out, but the Gorillas held on to the lead, winning 76-87.
 
Karim Mouliom had a monster game, scoring 19 points and grabbing a career high 16 rebounds in the win. Quinn Nelson also scored 19, good for his career high as well. Godfrey Rolle was the other Bearcat in double digit scoring, finishing with 12 points. Chris Rossow contributed 6 assists in the game.
 
SBU travels to Joplin Saturday afternoon, taking on the MSSU Lions at 3:30 PM.
