Bolivar, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University Tigers defeated the SBU Bearcats 92-67 Saturday afternoon. SBU's record moves to 4-9 (0-4 MIAA) on the year.
 
This first point of the game came by a free throw from FHSU. They followed up with a layup, but Morgan Henderson answered with a layup of her own. The Tigers pushed their lead to 10 with 3:13 left in the first quarter, but SBU battled back. Another Morgan Henderson layup, a 3 pointer from Laura Vierkant, and a three point play by Bailey Rezabek had SBU back within 2. With 17 seconds left, FHSU made 1 out of 2 free throws to give them a 3 point lead. As time expired in the quarter, Sydney Bandy nailed a three pointer to even the game at 19 a piece.
 
In the first 2:05, FHSU went on a 7-0 run. The Bearcats would answer back quickly, with a three from Bailey Rezabek and a layup by Caylee Richardson. SBU brought the game within 2 pionts, but the Tigers claimed a 43-30 lead going into halftime.
 
Just 10 seconds into the second half, FHSU hit a quick three. SBU's first points of the second half came by Sydney Bandy free throws. In the third, Bandy and Regan Tibbits each scored a layup, Madison Strong hit a three, and Laura Vierkant made a free throw. The Tigers built their lead to 33, leading 73-40 going into the fourth.
 
The visitors claimed the first points of the fourth, but Laura Vierkant answered quickly with a layup, followed by a Zahria White layup. After the Tigers scored a few buckets, Regan Tibbits scored 2 layups on back to back possessions, followed by a Bailey Rezabek three point play. Rezabek then scored another three points, these coming from a shot behind the arch. The Bearcats continued to battle, but the Tigers came out on top, 92-67.
 
Bailey Rezabek led SBU in scoring, putting up 14 in the loss. Morgan Henderson was just 2 rebounds away from another double-double, scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Laura Vierkant also contributed 13 points.
 
SBU hits the road for their next competition, taking on Pittsburg State on January 9th at 5:30.
