Four Players in Double-Digits as SBU Defeats UCM in Overtime

Warrensburg, Mo. - Four Bearcats have double-digits as SBU defeats UCM in overtime 83-79. This is the first time since 2004-05 that the Bearcats have beaten the Mules in Warrensburg. SBU won at a neutral site in 2005-06, but the win Saturday afternoon was big. SBU improves to 10-8 (4-5 MIAA) on the year.


To open the game both SBU and UCM would go back and forth trading baskets, the Bearcats would only lead once in the first half early in the game.
 

The Mules would gather a 20-11 lead with 6:41 in the first half, but from this point on till 4:17 in the first that SBU would go on a 7-0 scoring run to bring the UCM lead down to 20-19. And for the remainder of the half, both teams would exchange baskets, but a three right before the buzzer gave UCM a 33-29 lead at halftime.

 

At the half, Karim Mouliom tallied 9 points as well as bringing down 6 rebounds, and as a team, the Bearcats were shooting 40% from the field and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

 

To start off the second half the Bearcats came out on fire as SBU started on a 14-6 run to begin the second half, and at the first media timeout of the second half, the Bearcats had a 42-41 lead. SBU was able to continue their pace offensively building their lead up to 53-46 with 11:04 left in the game. UCM was able to pull back within one point at 55-54 with 9:00 remaining in the game, and from this point, SBU and UCM would trade baskets until a free-throw gave UCM a 68-67 lead with 37 seconds left in the game.

 

Mouliom went to the free-throw line for two shots after drawing a foul with 5 seconds remaining and was able to hit one of two free throws to send the game into overtime.

 

In the overtime period, Maris Colton scored 5 quick points and gave the Bearcats a 73-68 lead with 3:57 remaining in overtime. UCM would tie the game back up at 73 with 2:37 remaining, but the following Bearcat possession Godfrey Rolle hit a three-pointer to give SBU the lead back again this time with 1:23 remaining in the period. From this point on SBU was able to hit some key free throws down the stretch to hold off UCM 83-79.

 

SBU was led by Mouliom who totaled his fifth double-double of the season scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while also blocking 4 shots, Rolle totaled 19 points while shooting 75% from the three-point line, Chris Rossow contributed 15 points and dished out 8 assists to go with 5 rebounds, and Colton added 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

 

As a team, SBU shot 54.7% from the field, 42.1% from three, and 68% from the free-throw line. SBU also pulled down 37 rebounds and dished out 15 assists and the Bearcats also had a total of 6 blocks in the game.

 

SBU will be at Edmond, Oklahoma on Thursday, January 31st as they face Central Oklahoma at 7:30 PM.
