Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats hosted Ecclesia Wednesday evening in a rescheduled match. Southwest Baptist won by a score of 8-0 thanks to hat tricks from
Josh Peloquin and
Isaiah Waddy. The win improves their record to 1-7-0 (0-1 MIAA) on the season.
SBU launched a couple shots on goal early in the game, but couldn't find the back of the net. Not long after those shots,
Josh Peloquin scored a hat trick in an outstanding two minutes. The first goal was scored at 12:09 with no assists, the second was netted at 13:14 with assists from
Isaiah Waddy and
Alberto Rodriguez. The third came less than a minute after the second at 14:09, another assist from
Isaiah Waddy. Only a few minutes later, Waddy netted one of his own with an assist from
Angel Torres. At the 35:53 mark the Bearcats netted another goal, this one from former SBU Tennis player,
Torben Semrau. Southwest Baptist ended the half with 17 shots, 10 on goal, allowing the visitors only two shots and zero shots on goal.
The Bearcats kept their momentum going into the second half, scoring their sixth goal at 53:53. The goal was scored by
Isaiah Waddy and assisted by
Josh Peloquin. SBU kept the pressure on, netting another goal, giving Waddy a hat trick on the night and
Alberto Rodriguez his second assist. At the 78 minute mark
Evan Haney gave the Bearcats an 8-0 lead with an unassisted goal of his own.
The SBU defense held strong, only allowing 3 shots, 1 on goal. The SBU offense also had a strong day, getting off 34 shots and a blistering 20 on goal.
The Men's Soccer Team travels to Upper Iowa Friday afternoon to play in the MIAA matchup at 3 PM.
