Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats battled MSSU Sunday afternoon, falling by a score of 2-1. SBU moves to 0-5-1 (0-2 MIAA) on the year.
Maya Cofield and
Kylee Ryan got the Bearcats off to a hot start, getting shots off 2 minutes in that hit the post. At the 13:55 mark, MSSU put a shot on goal, but
Ashlyn Gibbs made the save. SBU continued to put the heat on, thanks to shots from
Toni Paterno,
Raquel Rodriguez, and
Raegan Edwards. Neither team would net a shot in the half, making the score 0-0 going into halftime.
A little over a minute into the second half, MSSU put a shot on goal, Gibbs made the save. The goal was not friends with the Bearcats as another shot from
Raegan Edwards just missed, hitting the post. At the 62:05 mark, MSSU broke the tie with a goal. However, just over 10 minutes later, SBU found the back of the net thanks to a
Maya Cofield goal from a
Raegan Edwards assist. With just 9 minutes remaining in the game, MSSU scored the go-ahead goal, giving them a 2-1 lead and would end up being the final score.
SBU shot the ball 12 times as a team, 4 landed on goal.
Ashlyn Gibbs finished with 5 saves on the day.
The Bearcats will be back in action Friday, September 21 at 4 PM, taking on Northeastern State.
