Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
St. Charles, Mo. - Southwest Baptist sophomore pitcher Dalton Morrow, the reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Week, earned his MIAA leading 7th win to help SBU grab a 3-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Lindenwood University. The 3-2 win allowed the Bearcats to split the doubleheader as the Lions claimed a 10-5 victory in game one. After the doubleheader, SBU's record now stands at 13-21 (6-14 MIAA) while Lindenwood is 15-18 (8-13 MIAA).

Game 1
After a scoreless couple innings from both starting pitchers, Lindenwood cracked the scoring column in the bottom of the 3rd with three runs off SBU's Blake Deatherage. In the top of the 4th, the Bearcats cut into the deficit with a run. Hunter Hisky started the inning with an opposite field double. Carl Schwettmann followed with a single to put runners on the corners. An RBI groundout from Clint Jack brought in Hisky and sent Schwettmann. Schwettmann would be stranded at 2nd base to leave the score at 3-1 Lions.

Deatherage exited the game following a 1-2-3 4th inning and was relieved in the 5th. Unfortunately, the Lions tallied seven runs in the bottom of the 5th to break the game open and go up 10-1. The combination of Brandon Hatfield and Cody Wade came in to shut down Lindenwood the rest of the way. Hatfield tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while Wade had a scoreless inning as well.  In the top of the 9th, the Bearcats scored four runs off the Lions bullpen. Hayden Crabtree led off with a walk and a batter later Noah Tucker singled to center. Jordan Stevens then walked to load the bases. With two outs, Trevor Lofstrom walked to force home Crabtree. A balk from the Lindenwood pitch sent home Tucker. Carl Schwettmann reached on an error that allowed two runners to score and make the final margin 10-5.

Deatherage was saddled with the loss (0-3) after pitching 4.0 innings with 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. At the plate, Tyler Mathys and Schwettmann had multiple hits in the game. Mathys was 2 for 4 and Schwettmann was 2 for 5. Hisky added a 1 for 3 performance with a run scored.

Game 2
In the second game, it was the Bearcats this time to jump on top in the 3rd inning. With one out, Mathys singled to right field. Following a strikeout, Hisky drove in Mathys with a RBI triple to right field that gave SBU an early 1-0 advantage. The Bearcats tacked on another run to make the score 2-0 on an error from the Lindenwood catcher that scored Hisky. After a scoreless 4th inning, the SBU offense went back to work in the top of the 5th. Luke Winfrey started the inning with a leadoff single. Mathys sacrificed Winfrey over to 2nd base. Andrew Meier capitalized with the runner in scoring position and smacked an RBI single up the middle to increase SBU's edge to 3-0.

The three runs were plenty for Morrow as he shutdown the Lions for the first seven innings. Morrow did have to dance around some jams in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. The bottom of the 5th Lindenwood put runners on 2nd base and 3rd base with one out. Morrow though induced an infield popup and fly out to escape without any runs allowed. In the bottom of the 6th, the Lions loaded the bases with two outs. However, Morrow was up to the task again as he got the Lindenwood batter to fly out and end the threat. Similar to the 5th, Lindenwood put two runners on with one out against Morrow but he showed his mettle one more time. He forced the next two Lion batters to ground out and line out and keep them off the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Lindenwood did finally score two runs off Morrow on a solo home run and two out RBI single. After the single, Morrow was replaced by Drew Wagner. Wagner quickly ended the 8th inning with a fly out. Wagner made it look easy in the 9th as he sat down the Lions in order to pick up his third save and seal the 3-2 win for the Bearcats.

Morrow improved his record to 7-1 behind 7 2/3 innings with 2 earned runs, 9 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. On the offensive side, Hisky went 2 for 4 in the game with an RBI and run scored. Mathys, Winfrey, Meier, Schwettmann, Patrick Latham, and Don Roethler all recorded hits. Mathys added a run and Meier an RBI as well.

The Bearcats and Lions will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 12:00 PM in St. Charles.
